I disagree that remeron is not an effective antidepressant. A number of studies show that it can work faster and more completely than other antidepressants.
It has a different side effect profile (more sedation, less activation, increased appetite, some cognititive side effects).
If I am really depressed, anxious, can't sleep, anehedonic etc. remeron tends to get me feeling better faster than ssris.
For me, I think it has definately prevented depressive relapses.
Its not that good for social anxiety, it doesn't make me 'outgoing' like SSRIs
