It used to be that valium got that bad rap...cuz everybody was on valium for a minute there. Then Xanax got a bad rap. Now everybody on benzos is usually on klonopin, so klonopin gets a bad rap.Klonopin is tricky. It can cause depression. It can be tough to taper. I think it has more drug-drug interactions that other benzos. For whatever reason, some docs keep the wrong patients on it for too long, at excessively high doses, and then don't do skillful tapers.
I think, ideally, more people would be on valium. Its easier to taper, and the added sedation can minimize the need for sleep meds. Unfortunately...its already got a bad rap as a Mother's Little Helper.
