> I am considering taking nefazodone. I took zoloft for years no problem but went off it and back on and had a bad reaction. Twitching all over especially my mouth, muscles weakness, Parkinson's like symptoms. I wonder if taking nefazodone would work for my extreme anxiety problem and panic attacks. I worry about the vision problems and that it effects norepinephrine. Wouldn't that make it more prone to cause anxiety? Anyone use this medication and can tell me what they think about it?
Just my personal opinion, but I would highly advise against using Nefazodone if you have co-morbid anxiety and panic attacks. The main metabolite in Nefazodone (and Trazodone) is m-CPP. This metabolite is used as a probe in animal studies to induce anxiety-like states. It actually counteracts the parent compound's antagonistic effects at the same receptors (e.g., 5-HT2a and 2c).I used Nefazodone for years in low-dose form as an antidepressant but its exacerbation of my anxiety (along with other side effects) eventually led me to discontinue it. If you do a PB archive search, you will find a lot of past users complained about similar issues with Nefazodone.
