Your story resonates with me. I, too, was raised in a well to do family, but with parents that did not pay much attention to me. A lack of self confidence and a very difficult time in university led to a major breakout of anxiety that never turned off. I've been battling anxiety for a little over 20 years now. The disease has cost me dearly... I had a high flying career once and a girl I was engaged to which I loved more than anything. I lost both along the way. I'm still fighting though. I've managed to find someone great, we got married and have two wonderful kids. I work for government now. A little less glamorous, but its a good respectable job.
But none of the above is what I consider success. Fighting mind crushing anxiety every day and finding the will to go on, to try different things to get better...that is my definition of success. It's a question of will. From what I can gather, it sounds like are a fighter, too. To me, you are someone to look up to. Keep your chin up. Don't give up. One day you will get better, completely better. I know I will. You will too, because half the battle is trying to get better and showing up every day.
