maybe. when i don't get enough sleep i start hallucinating / dreaming when I'm awake.
i think there might have been studies done when they deprived people of REM sleep in particular... REM = Rapid Eye Movement - and you can detect the muscles around the eyes moving when the eyes start to move and so wake the subject up to prevent REM sleep.
i remember they were not happy campers, but i don't remember any more of the detail than that...
