Hi Phillipa - yes, we have private insurance here, its mainly used to give cover fr minor but annoying conditions where the national health scheme has waiting lists, serious illnesses such as cancrand heart disease are always treated in the big state hspitals affiliated to university medical schools, but if you need your tonsils out or an arthroscopy on your knee or something like that, going private can be quicker. My anxiey/panic has been realy bad of late, and I don't know what to do, Nardil seems to be the last resort, after that, I think all I have left is inpatien treatment
Don't get too down on Obamas medical shceme - Australias public health system deliveres better outcomes than the American health system (longer life expectancy for example) while only spending about 2/3 of what the US does, by using evidence based medicine and buying services and drugs in bulk - a national health scheme doesn't have to be the end of good medicine, infact it can be quite the opposite. Canada has had national health insurance for 50 years, Australia has had it for 30, and we're doing ok. Its only failing is the waiting list system for non urgent procedures.
