Augmentation of Luvox and Risperdal good choice?

Posted by MixedState66 on March 30, 2013, at 17:29:57

I am currently on the 50 mg of the TCA nortriptyline and added .5 mg of risperdal about 2 1/2 weeks ago. I think the risperdal has been effective to boost my mood and help me sleep better, not waking up with racing thoughts / anxiety.

However, even though this is an uncommon side effect with nortryptiline, I think it has decreased my sex drive as I don't have any interest. Also, I still feel somewhat irritable and have other OCD symptoms like pulling out my eyelashes/eyebrows constantly and obsessing over a girl I broke up with. I still think my mood can be much improved as I have had a history of melancholic depression, and unable to get an uplifted mood from positive events occurring in my life.

I have tried monotherapy with several SSRI's (paxil, lexapro, celexa) that either caused lethargy, sedation to an extreme extent, or emotionally flat, and loss of sex drive. Since Luvox is known to treat OCD, do you think the combination of Luvox and risperdal might be helpful? It is difficult to describe the symptoms I have. I have felt a disconnect from others around me and a constant low mood and unable to experience pleasure in activities for several years now. My mind seems to be stuck and even just looking outside on a sunny day seems to be blurry and dull. I have felt this way for almost 7 years with very little mood increase. Do you think I should increase my dosage on risperdal to 1 mg and what is the minimum dosage that should be taken of risperdal for off label melancholic depression? Is there a chance that I should increase my dosage on nortriptiline from 50 mg to 100 or should I just get off it and try something new?

Please let me know if anyone has had experience with this combination. Is luvox more likely than others to have negative side effects with libido and sedation? I'm really curious what others out there may suggest.
