Scott,

I was saddened to read this post of yours. I know that you're usually one of the first to urge others to try a different treatment option that hasn't been tried before or to otherwise provide some reason to be hopeful about the future, and it just doesn't seem right or fair that you're left in the situation that you're currently in as far as your treatment is concerned. In a lot of cases, perhaps even my own, it can be easy to identify a treatment that might make the difference between a person's current quality of life and something that would at least resemble the quality of life that that person would want to have. And I wouldn't completely lose hope of finding a more effective treatment regimen than the one that you're currently utilizing. New treatment options will continue to keep coming along, as will new ideas, and I would really like to hope that at some point in the future something will change to bring about the kind of therapeutic response that you're both looking for and (in my opinion) deserving of. Remission, or at least something close to it, isn't something that I'd rule out. But I must say that I can see where you're coming from in saying that you feel demoralized, doomed, less hopeful about your future, and less motivated to keep fighting and pushing against your depression. You probably have as much reason to feel the way you do as anybody else on this board. Yet I think you should keep fighting, or at least keep hanging on. You've come too far and still have so much to offer to stop fighting against your depression. My situation and yours are probably different in at least a few ways, but I will say that one thing that I've held onto when I've felt "stuck" with my treatment is the possibility for better things at least somewhere down the line. And I do think that even though the chances of better days being ahead for you may seem slim, the possibility that things will improve is there. So, again, I know that you're not in exactly the same position that I'm in, but I would keep pushing forward and hold on to what glimmers of hope you can find, much as I've been trying to do.

I do hope that getting yourself back to 200 mg/day of Lamictal ends up going smoothly.
