Lithium raises blood sugar

I had no idea that lithium could effect endocrine functions. I suppose it might be rare, but right now my blood sugar registers in the diabetic range. And here I thought I was safe using lithium to avoid this very problem.

Does anyone know of real mood stabilizers that will not cause an increase in blood sugar? By real, I mean not topiramate or gabapentin, etc.
