In reply to no med prescribed for MAOI emergency, posted by Roslynn on March 2, 2013, at 11:50:10
Hi Roslynn,
My doctor didn't prescribe anything for hypertensive crisis either. At first I was very cautious about the diet thing, but I did a lot of reading on it and a lot of those restrictions are not as important anymore in the U.S. because of pasteurization and other improvements in food handling processes. It's been about four months and I haven't had any food reactions. (I can look up that study if you would like to see it.)
I also read when I was researching that unless the hypertensive crisis reaches a critical point it can actually be more detrimental to treat it than to leave it alone and let it resolve on its own, so perhaps that is part of the current reasoning behind the ER/911 advice.Best of luck,
Cat
