Thanks, Willyee. I do agree that those who suffer from an affective disorder, a psychotic disorder, both, or probably also some other psychiatric illnesses tend to develop a sense of compassion for others that they very well might not have developed if they wouldn't have had to contend with the symptoms that they've contended with. In other words, although I wouldn't wish any of the symptoms that I've experienced on my worst enemy, I do think that suffering could be of some value by helping us to better understand the suffering of others and to help us feel for what they're going through. I don't mean to say that anyone should suffer just because there's value in it, but I do think that those who've overcome an illness emerge with a different outlook from the one that they had going into the illness.
