Some people have speculated that by improving someone's appearance with Botox, they'll feel better about themselves and be happier as a result. And some have speculated that by removing a depressed person's frowning countenance with Botox, other people will start treating them better, which will cause the Botoxed depressed person to be less depressed. There's probably something to these arguments, but a much stronger case can be made that by preventing depressed people from frowning, it prevents them from feeling so negative.
