Ben Moody, with whom Amy Lee founded the band Evanescence, suffers from bipolar disorder, which was a factor in his decision to leave the band in 2003. So, while Amy may not be bipolar, herself, she is obviously familiar with it. I wouldn't be surprised if he was an inspiration (either consciously or not) for the song. I'm not an Evanescence fan, but I do appreciate Amy's talents as a singer and songwriter. There's something about her that is haunting, from her voice to her songs to her stunningly beautiful eyes that seem to radiate sadness. She looks, writes and sings as though she is intimately acquainted with pain. Which is probably a big part of why she is so good at her art. I had never heard this song until reading this thread, so thanks for sharing it, it's a good song. Another band, Nirvana, recorded and released a song called 'Lithium' in 1991. Singer Kurt Cobain was bipolar (not sure if he was ever on Lithium, but the song seems to embody an experience of the disorder.) Here's a link:
