In reply to antidepressants advertised in modern today, posted by rjlockhart37 on December 5, 2012, at 19:13:29
> you know...i don't know if any of you kinda realize this....before the SSRI's, i don't think the Tricyclic ADs where advertised on TV. It was more when really had a problem with depression that severely impaired daily functions. And today...i mean there are so many antidepressants that are prescibed and adverised on tv...doctors offices posters...everywhere...its like this nation has turned into antidepressant society, before that it was benzo society but i don't it was as massive as its adverstised today, xanax is commonly used...like when I watch movies, they bring up xanax, people i've met talk about xanax and how its a part of a conversation...well some people not alot. But its a part of some society...like wiskey in the 1800's...because that was the only thing they had besides morphine and choral hydrate...today there are 100's of medication to choose from...not to think how many in the next 100 years to come. It will like opening a 1000 page book.

> but im just curious to ask what started all this major advertise...i mean I know definetly the drug companies come up with a medication, discuss it and how and who to advertise it for, and then release it to the public and make profit...until the patton goes out and then the generic drug companies start making left over profit...

> but they forget that back in the old days, it was only used for severe depressed people that just could not function...and now ronnie blomant walking down the street doesnt feel good...and gets cymbalta, and gets abilify if he still doesnt feel good. But don't take this the wrong way...but if you see that the wide usage on everyone has been prescibed antidepressants for low mood, when back in the day low mood was a part of life...and dealt with it. But Modern society is changing from all the old ways of living, today it would be miserable to live in the 1700s, and deal with those socialites that wore wigs and had that accent of extreme properness, which I could not stand doing that everyday. Get me out of there, ship me to some beach they havent found..lol but It's just a view I have.

I think I understand what you are saying. The drug companies wouldn't it any other way. It is how they make money. They can advertise to everyone in the U.S. and get so many people taking their meds.
