I've been on Emsam 6mg patch for about 3 mo and aside from a couple of manageable hiccups (including middle insomnia) love it and hope to stay on it.
As I wake up several times in the night, I realize I'm "stimming" (usually a term related to ASD but aka "stereotyping" in the greater psychobabble lexicon) while half asleep. I run my fingertips lightly along my wrists to my inner elbow and back again. It simply feels nice but I have no idea what it has to do with being half-asleep, anxiety, MAOIs, or that I'm even doing it until I'm more awake. Perhaps it's a way of self-waking from a heavy, groggy state.
Considering Emsam has relieved my fibromyalgia, I find it weird especially since I'm used to being asleep and fatigued for endless hours and days and never woke in the night, even to use the toilet. Perhaps the tickling feeling my stimming causes also offsets some of the physical negative/painful neuroprocessing of fibro.
In any case, I found it interesting that it started with my Emsam insomnia, despite fibro pain relief, and I can't think of any other wakeful stimming I do.
