Timeline of psychopharmacology

Posted by jono_in_adelaide on October 19, 2012, at 18:09:04

Antiquity - Alcohol, opium

1850's - bromides

late 1800's - chloral and various other sedatives

1900 - Barbiturates

1940 - Amphetamine

1950 - Dexamyl/Drinamyl

1955 - Miltown/Equanil, Thorazine/Largactil

1960 - Librium, Nardil, Tofranil

1980 - Buspar

1990 - SSRI's, SNRI's, Remeron

So - whats next?

From my point of view, hopefully an anxiolytic equal to the benzodiazepines that doesnt produce tolorance or dependence

(feel free to add any that I have missed!)
