Get your dose of Effexor down to 150mg, and hold it there for a few weeks to stabalise.
Then, get a script from your doctor for Prozac 20mg capsules. Stop taking the Effexor, and start taking the Prozac, 2 capsules each morning. This should cover the withdrawl of the Effexor. Also get from your doctor a script for a small quantity of a benzo tranquilizer, say 20 tablets of Xanax, Ativan, Valium etc. Take a pill when you feel especialy bad, they will be very helpful during the first few days of the change over. Also have some Unisom Sleepgels on hand, one or two at night will help you get decent sleep during the first few days of the change over.
After you have been on Prozac 2 capsules a day for 4 weeks, cut it back to one capsule a day for 4 weeks. After that 4 weeks, cut it back to one capsule every second day for 4 weeks, then stop.
Prozac has such a long half life that it is self tapering, it can cover the withdrawl of other SRI's, but shouldnt cause any withdrawl symptoms of its own.
At thend of this time you should be antidepressant free.
At this point, if you feel you need antidepressant therapy, it would be worth trying Zolfot (an SSRI) plus either nortriptyline or Welbutrin (NARI's)
