The ADHD would explain a lot of things that I thought were just my personality, and maybe they are, but it's an interesting theory. Taking th meds and seeing how I react will be the test. That's what I would do.

Are you disturbed that you might have languished for years in a dysfunctional state because you were not treated for the right illness? If not, then what are you disturbed by?
I know a guy whose life followed a similar story. His major complaint was that of depression. To him, that's what his ADHD felt like. Standard antidepressants gave him little or no relief. I believe high-dose Effexor helped a bit. Then, one of his doctors got the bright idea that my friend's reports of depression may have been secondary to ADHD. Strattera (atomoxetine) changed his life. Not only did the depression resolve, but he saw for the first time in his life what it was like to be focused on performing tasks and assemble organized thoughts. He finally cleaned his apartment. He became much more able to live independently. He smiled - lots. He was full of optimism and positive energy. He was like a different person. Strattera was the only drug that he was treated with.
