Choosing the right one is a guess so you just have to try different ones. The substance the magnesium is attached to usually has some significance when making a choice. For example, magnesium glycinate would be a decent choice for anixety issues, as would magnesium taurate. Glycine and taurine are on the calming side of amino acids, but can also play a role in mood uplift. Magnesium malate is good all around for a variety of reasons but I'm not sure what role it would play in mood symptoms. The other versions such as citrate, oxide, etc, don't have as much potential because they are not absorbed as well and they don't have a carrier than is active in the brain. Yeah, there are lots of magnesium choioces. I think I would go for taurate, glycinate, malate.
Most people benefit from magnesium in some way. I think I am the odd ball because I can handle a little bit, but too much actually makes me more depressed. I remember once though I had such bad anxiety and then I took a bath in epsom salts (magnesium sulfate) and I was so calm and sleepy after soaking in some magnesium through the skin. It was better than xanax.
