Ive been weaning my 1½ month use of clonazepam with clonidine with very positive results so far. It does take some of the physical and even psychological symptoms of withdrawal away.
Yes i know this is basically a blood pressure medication, BUT. It also is α2 adrenergic agonist and possibly imidazoline receptor agonist.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clonidine if someone wnats to read about it. Its off label uses are many, but it is used in detox clinix for alcohol and opioid detofixication, and as clonazepam is basically atleast in my opinion almost in the same class then these two previously mentioned, even though much helpfull in certain situations i just cannot think myself as being addicted to benzos for a long time. I started to wean from 2mg, and im now at 1mg, taking about 5 days to reduce 0.5mg. Its been somewhat hard, but atleast im trying to stop using clonazepam and have some better drugs to deal with my anxiety and panic that dont have the effect of causing physical dependence.
Its a drug that will make you sleepy. (atleast at first). IF i may say actually very sleepy.... I dont know if the effect will last how long, but i think its a pretty decent sedative that shouldnt cause dependence.
Its off label uses also include adhd, anxiety, panic, and the effect starts after about 1 hour, but first try will make you propably sleep at dose of 0,150mg.
What you should be vary , is that as this is a bp medication dizziness, and sleepiness may occur, so be ware of yourself. If you plan on stopping clonazepam, or other benzo/z class drug, this might help you do it.
Anyway my anxiety issues are not in bay, i can barely manage the days, but lets hope things go well. It was hard to get a doc prescribe this drug to me as in finland it is only used by heroin detoxification , even though its non addicting. The first doc i spoke about this said that its against his professional opinion, and the only options to treat panic disorder / anxiety here are benzodiazepines and ssri:s. However my benzo tolerance builds within days/weeks, and ssri:s make the panic 10x worse ;(.
Someone might find this praising this drug to be a wonder drug , its not. It may help someone reduce the benzo use and sleep and it is actually a really good non benzo sleep aid. Stronger then remeron id say.
