I've been thinking a lot recently, with a change in medication imminent, about the possibility that psychotic depression may actually be the most apt description of my condition. So, I'm curious, what constitutes a delusion or hallucination that would be significant enough, along with symptoms of major depressive disorder, to warrant a diganosis of psychotic depression? For approximately eight years I've had a pervasive obsession with the belief that I have permanent brain damage based on the poor memory and cognition that I've had during periods of depression which haven't fully abated. I alos have phobias of what I believe would be potential contributors to brain damage, such as all types of electrical or electronic equipment or foreign substances of many kinds, like gasoline and noxious fumes. So, would that be consistent with psychotic depression? ALso, what would be the treatment regime of choice for psychotic depression? Thanks for all replies, folks!
