I was on brand Lamictal before any generics came out. I was switched over to a generic, I have no idea who the manufacturer was, but they were shaped like two pyramids together? (I used to be good at math I'm sure there's a name for this!) Anyway, I did relapse. Now, whether that was because of the change to generic, there's really no way of knowing, at least in my view. I mean, I don't remember anything going on in my life at the time that would have aggravated my symptoms, so of course it is easy to point the finger to the generic. And maybe it was the generic, but how do we really know? I think more studies need to be done on the brand vs. generic thing. Or at least require that they are 99% or more of the same amount of active ingredient, not the huge window that it is (I can't find that NYT article at the moment, but there was a quote from a guy at the FDA saying how much different they can be and still get approved and I was shocked.)
I'm actually on GSK bridges to access program so I get my brand Lamictal for free, and I don't ever want to have to go generic again, in case that was the reason for the relapse. herpills
