I'm finally on Vyvanse (day 1 of 70mg-- so far, a success, with it working in just 40 minutes!). Props to Cigna Medicare Rx, which processed a Medicare Prior Authorization for it, even though it wasn't on the formulary.
In Medicare, your doc can ask for an exception to be made, even if it isn't on the formulary, by requesting an administrative prior authorization. My doc cited a failed trial of 30mg total/day of Dex Spansules, and commercial unavailability of Dexedrie IR tablets.
It turns out that "commercial unavailability" is am option on the forms that insurance providers use for determining whether an ADD med is eligible for prior authorization, in case anyone is being hassled with drug shortages for what works best for them. Vyvanse has never, ever been out of stock during all of the shortage.
