gad/panic Medication (new member)

Posted by thefan on May 15, 2012, at 16:39:51

Hi

I have read this forum in the past but i decided to make my first formal post now as im again suffering from horrible problems with my mental health ;(

My medication is as follows. 750mg lyrica per day divided to 3 doses, a very small dose about 5mg mirtazapine, and a very small dose of trazodon hydrochlorid. 25mg or so. These are for gad/panic disorder.

I have been doing very fine with this medication for the past 3 years. Before this i was only on remeron and with the small dose.

My brain is peculiar, because for some reason benzodiazepines work only a matter of few days. I have not heard of any other person whose brain works this way, but maybe there are some. Anyway if i start to use a specific benzodiazepine, i develop tolerance extremely fast. Well i dont really know if its tolerance , because it occurs in a matter of days. For example to use a sleep medicine like imovane, i take 7,5mg, but the next day i cannot get to sleep unless i take that as double ;(.
Same is with regular benzodiazepines like klonopin. I only get the "benefits" for a matter of few days / week, and then i have to be withouth the medicine for about 2 weeks before i can start to use it again. If i use 2 different gaba bending benzos i will get a bit more benefit, but all in all i cannot use them for more then a few days. Maybe this has something to do with the gaba levels in my brain, or i dont know.

The worsening of anxiety into full blown panic happened this week when i have discontinued panacod (used it for 2 days), and pronaxen (pain med). I have had problem with my prostate and took these to handle that pain area. I have only had prostate problems for 2 months, and i have been panicking about my prostate, but i think i have really been having these anxiety symptoms for 2 months that caused my prostate to be painfull, and in vice versa the prostate caused my brain to be panicky ;(.

I believe the pronaxen is still causing my brain to feel somewhat foggy, even though its just a regular medication for pain.

Anyway back to business. Most serotonergic meds have been really bad for my problems. They have just caused my problems to go 1000x worse to a point i cannot even function. These low doses make me feel a bit tired, which appears to have worked in my case. I have also heard these two drugs i mentioned work with the same receptors in the brain , i dont know on what particular receptor , but there is something good with these drugs, except not on high doses, then they make me feel more anxious like other serotonergic drugs.

I must add that more then 3 years ago my klonopin dosage rose within a period of about 3-4 months to an unimaginable level of about 6-7 mg per day , and i came off it pretty much cold turkey with the help of lyrica which i have continued to use since then.

Do you guys here at the babble have any idea which meds could possibly work with the same receptors as mirtazapine and trazodone? A 3rd drug with that category might come into question.

Lyrica seems to take most of the physical trouble as muscle pain to go away and with this high dose it also usually makes me feel more energetic. So i think ill keep it.

Any chance of suggesting any meds for my panic/gad? Meds seem to be the only thing that help me deal with these problems. I have had some therapy but it really as not for me as i have really intense physical problems like the pain in my chest and legs and arms and fear of something, and sometimes insomnia. Never had that with my current meds until now. For now i think i may have to try klonopin for a few days cos i know it will work for a few days, but after that it will again stop working as several times before.
