Regarding Trileptal bloodwork, I was told that you need it if you develop any symptoms of "hyponatremia" (too little sodium in the blood, occurs in ~3% of people treated). Symptoms are flu-like feeling, confusion, ankle swelling. The blood test checks for sodium levels, but the test isn't routinely done.
