Hey all,
I have used D-Phenylalanine periodically over the years and have been using it pretty consistently over the past 6 months. I think it's had a pretty solid impact on my mood. It is the "right half" of the amino acid DL-phenylalanine, and I take 1-2 500mg capsules per day.
There are some very old studies from the 70s and 80s that used D-Phenylalanine in argentina in doses of 100mg-500mg as mono therapy, and i'm reading the studies now and they actually look pretty convincing. It is a very safe compound, and taking just the D- isomer I think may be even better than the DL. Too much L-Phenylalanine can depress, cause too much norepinephrine, dopamine, and variable make someone too stimulated or also just as likely very sleepy and sluggish.
But D-Phenylalanine has been shown to reliably increase PEA concentrations, in the studies, pretty significantly, and this is done over time without the bad kinetics of supplemental PEA.
I'm interested in whether other people see results with this course of treatment. Would anyone be interested in trying D-Phenylalanine for a few weeks, in addition to your other meds, to see what the response is and how you feel? I think raising PEA concentrations is a really underutilized tactic, and I would love to see if other people get good results too.
Please answer on this thread and we can all decide a day to start and what the protocol should be. I am thinking 500mg at breakfast and at lunch if well tolerated. It's not stimulating like a stimulant or like pure PEA, in fact I hardly notice it, but my mood has been better the last few months and i attribute it partially to this.
