It might be worthwhile seeing a sleep specialist and having a sleep study done. This will tell you if there is something physiologically wrong with you which is causing the insomnia and then you can get treatment for it.
You're clearly worried that there is something seriously wrong with you, you should find out if there is so you can stop worrying. All the worry is only going to keep you awake. Most people say they get the best night's sleep they've had in ages when in the lab, so if you're worried there won't be any sleep to study, don't be!
If it turns out there isn't a physiological problem, see a sleep psychologist for CBT specific to your sleeping problem. The sleep specialist would probably refer you to one. This is an evidenced based treatment that is proven to be effective.
Keep practicing good sleep hygiene even though it sucks. Morning walks in the sunshine (no sunglasses!) are good for resetting the body clock but gosh they're hard when you're exhausted from the lack of sleep and your bed is warm and cozy.....
I've had good results with melatonin but it's best if it's prescription and made up for you at a compounding chemist. Doc says the over-the-counter vitamins are too hit and miss.
