I wikipedia'd benzos and it says that one of the side effects of long term use is depression. I have been on zoloft for 17 years and my gut has always felt like it actually helps. I don't like the feeling my clonazepam is giving me anymore. Unfortunately it is so darn hard to get off it. Slowly but surely I am.
Good luck!I don't know if it would help, but some people crossover to Valium and taper the Valium. It is reported to be easier to discontinue than clonazepam. I would probably try tapering the clonazepam first and consider crossing over if you get stuck.
