i have been suffering from some severe anhedonia for a while now. it all started when i took mirapex to help with libido. for about a month it helped really well and then all the sudden its effects reversed and left decreased my ability to feel pleasure. after this happened i tried tianeptine and it only made the problem worseafter 10 days. and then i tried ritalin and it made me even worse after 1 dose. my theory is that the my dopamine receptors had been overstimulated by the mirapex, causing a decrease in synthesis/release of dopamine. and further stimulation of my receptors by meds such as ritalin or tianeptine only leads to a decrease in my brains ability to naturally release dopamine.
one med i found to help was cyproheptadine, and i think it was its 5ht2c antagonism that helped me. i read that when that receptor is blocked off, your brain release more dopamine in response to normally pleasurable things and doesnt force your brain to release dopamine like ritalin does. but i became tolerant to a much too high dose of it and my tolerance doesnt seem to be going away (even after a year) so now i have deplin, which i filled earlier and am hoping it might could help me. i let my mom take one earlier and she said she felt "stimulated" like how you feel from an increase in dopamine. i am afraid to try it myself though. i would feel better if i could find more info on how deplin affects the brain, but i really just cant find much inforomation on the internet about...
i hope all this makes sense!
