I'm not sure what you mean by this. The prescribing of psych meds is currently very high in most western countries.

I wouldn't say it's a fallacy, but some people do have unrealistic expectations. This includes some doctors, who overstate the effectiveness of medication.

Many of the most widely used psych drugs are now available as generics, and are therefore not making much money for the largest pharmaceutical companies. They are still prescribed very frequently. Drugs do not exist 'just to make money', but making money is obviously one of the main purposes of the industry.
