hey all,
there is a good thread on longevity.com (search for uridine) about uridine. A few people including myself are trying it and have reported early and good results with bipolar depression and obsessive thinking. Its too early to say anything, but there are a few studies on uridine showing that it has some promise when taken with DHA fish oil. I am taking 75mg of the triacetyluridine form which supposedly is equivalent to around 500mg regular uridine, along with 1250mg DHA (and 2g EPA but uridine works with DHA).
The deal is that uridine combined with DHA increases phosphatidlycholine synthesis and supports cell membranes, etc. In any event, it got pretty good results in a few studies a few years ago, the most recent study used 18g of triacetyluridine so it's questionable whether 75mg will actually do anything, but so far so good for me. It may have been placebo effect, but I seemed to feel better (at the minimum more grounded less obsessive thinking) after two days. So much so that I considered not starting the low dose SSRI I was supposed to start last night (i started it anyway, strangely this morning woke up feeling a bit more down, go figure SSRIs).
You can get triacetyluridine i think from swansons vitamins or other places. I am using cardiovascular research brand. It's cheap.
I think some of you treatment resistant bipolar 2 depression sufferers and some of you OCD people should definitely do a trial. Post on this thread your experience.
I know we are all used to hearing some supplement or whatever as being the magic bullet but uridine has been looked at by the NIH pretty seriously and it seems very low risk, and the dosages we would be using would be very low.
Anyway, if anyone has any experience to add, please share. The combo is also being looked at for alzheimers by danone in the "souvanaid" medical food.
