Regarding AA - did you have a problem with addiction/alcoholism? I think AA is pretty useless for people who are just going to address mental health problems. It is really about addiction and alcoholism, though many people have mental health issue too. These tend to be a minority though. I go to AA and suffer from severe depressions. I have a couple of friends in AA with severe bipolar I. But most people just were addicted and felt better once they got sober. For me, getting sober meant confronting depression head-on and I got a lot worse. Still AA helped. People were loving and caring and visited me in the hospital.
