Graveyard shifts and mood disorders - what to do?

Posted by zonked on December 8, 2011, at 15:57:22

Hi all:

I worked a one-time early morning graveyard shift, and forced myself to stay up until around 7 or 8pm the next day, thinking that would get my circadians in order.

I woke up at 10am today REALLY anxious and depressed. It's getting better, and I hope my cycle resets OK, but I wanted to know:

If you have a shift like that, should you go to bed when you get home, or force yourself to stay up (in my case with caffeine pills) until you normally go to bed?

For now, to be on the safe side, I think I'll refuse graveyard assignments.
