I'm not sure your doctor can definitively say what it is, sounds like it could be bipolar.
Could you tell us some about your history? Have you ever been manic at all? Overly happy, slightly euphoric, hyperactive, impulsive, unusually high energy, wild behavior, risky behavior???? Any of these or several at one time?
Do you go through depressive periods?
Do stressful events trigger your episodes?
