I try to increase my vitamin C and use an herbal preparation called Swiss Kriss. It's been around for decades and is cheap. The primary ingredient is senna, which can be strong, but they have it mixed in with other herbs to help prevent side effects like cramping or gas.
It took a few times to get my optimal dose down. (Not to much or too little.). I use that as needed. It takes like overnight to work or about that long. I find it pretty mild.
Personally, I haven't found metamucil (did someone suggest that?) useful. I guess for me the dreaded c isn't about fiber because I eat fairly well. Not counting the ice cream.
