In reply to Prolactin high- no sex interest- mirapex answer?, posted by alfie on September 11, 2011, at 16:33:06
Welcome to Psychobabble, Alfie. I want to caution you that none of us are doctors, nor can we make medication recommendations. Given that your own doctor, who knows your history and diagnosis, has declined to offer you Mirapex, I would think that is an important consideration.
In any case, on looking into your medication history, I've concluded that you are likely being impatient. Risperdal Consta includes the following pharmacodynamic statement in the long version of the drug monograph: "Steady-state plasma concentrations are reached after 4 injections and are maintained for 4 to 6 weeks after the last injection." Given the time-line you've provided, you've only begun the drug withdrawal process, which may be prolonged due to the delivery vehicle employed.
Moreover, you do not know that it was the Risperdal causing your sexual dysfuntion. It could be the Effexor. Or, it could be something else in your life.
I think it's too soon to be seeking remedies for side effects that may simply disappear, with sufficient passage of time.
