Parnate for psychotic depression?

Posted by Christ_empowered on May 29, 2011, at 8:34:23

I'm so over Celexa. I mean, yes, it works, and its cheap as can be ($10/90 day supply), but I just can't deal with the apathy. I stopped taking it once I realized that my car was a mess, my apartment was a mess, I don't have a job yet, but...I just don't care. Apathy of that magnitude simply cannot be tolerated; I need what little initiative and motivation I have left after the 30mgs of Abilify has done its "thing" to, you know, try to put together a life worth living. (The Abilify, for better or for worse, seems like its going to be a part of my life for a long, long time).

Now that I've stopped taking it, I actually feel a bit better in the sense that I'm more active, motivated, and less apathetic. That's awesome. However, psychotic depression really isn't my thing, so I'm looking for an antidepressant/mood-elevator/anxiolytic/whatever that will work with the Abilify to keep the the worst of "the blues" at bay.

So...Parnate. Is it terrible, in terms of side-effects and the diet? Does it work for psychotic depression? What's the typical dosage (I looked, and it seems like dosages vary wildly in the literature, so I thought I'd ask for patient experiences).

Thanks for any input y'all might have.
