I am not a doctor but I've seen many different doctors over many years. If your doctor does indeed refuse to try MAOI and TCA's without supplying a valid reason, I would find a new doctor, preferably a psychiatrist rather than a GP. In fact, I'd say it's almost essential s/he be a psychiatrist.
