A quick search of a drug database reveals that Tegretol has been associated with agitation, depression and "talkativeness." It's not uncommon to find that a drug can cause a symptom that you would expect it to treat. You may have gotten a folded-up piece of paper called the 'label' with your prescription. If you didn't you should be able to obtain it from the pharmacist. It has a remarkable amount of information on it and can make good reading. A lot of the info is also duplicated on web sites like rxlist.com.
Disturbances of coordination, oculomotor disturbances, nystagmus, speech disturbances, abnormal involuntary movements, agitation, peripheral neuritis and paresthesias, depression, talkativeness, tinnitus, and hyperacusis may also occur.
