anesthesia induced psychosis

Posted by crazyafterwards on February 24, 2011, at 21:30:46

I have had general anesthesia several times and after wards I get paranoid. it usually lasts a few hours to a few days. After a recent procedure, one in which the anesthesiologist told me that they had some trouble getting me "under" and that he had to give me "a good amount" of medication. This procedure involved my c-spine. I was paranoid and not myself at all for a week. While I've been in a lot of pain. I have not been taking the pain meds as ordered because I did not feel right, and didn't want to become too doped up. What are the chances that this paranoia is associated with the anesthesia? I have spoken with several nurses who told me it was most likely caused by anesthesia. I was in the hospital 2 days, but remember little from it. I'm concerned because I have to have at least 1 more procedure and I need to avoid the paranoia that comes afterward. My family has told me that every time I go under, I'm like this for a few days. I will see my doctor next week and will speak to him about this, found your website and just wanted to hear what you think. thanks
