Ambien seems to have the potential to lose its efficacy over time, at least in my experience. Same with zopiclone. Seroquel at 100mg still knocks me out cold and puts an upper limit on hypomanic type anxiety/irritability/racing thoughts. But in the end, if you can get the results you want from Ambien, do it! Who knows what's best for your situation and biochemistry.
