It is probably safe, especially if it is a low dose of elavil for sleep. Elavil is not a strong serotonin reuptake inhibitor, and the patch probably won't increase serotonin as potently as say nardil. Also elavil's metabolite is nortriptyline, which according to Dr. Gilman at www.psychotropical.com, says it makes the MAOI safer if you accidentally eat some tyramine.
