Clonazepam is a very reliable medication. In my experience, and like Scott said, it may exacerbate depression, causing a dullness of sorts.
IME the trick is to stick to the lowest effective dose, and to toy with the dosing schedule, and then take it from there. Splitting the 0.25mg into divided doses wouldn't be unheard of, in fact Roche markets 0.125mg klonopin wafers in certain countries.
