Hallucinogens for depression

Posted by pedr on November 12, 2010, at 23:42:00

Hi,
for those who aren't aware, there's been a lot of interest recently in the use of hallucinogens for treating depression. Studies have reported "super-accelerated psychotherapy"-like effects of just a single dose of MDMA, Ketamine and LSD. It's as if it allows the sufferer to see their issues from a previously-unreachable angle or viewpoint, and once they "get it", they improve dramatically.

Anyway, here's the article:
http://health.howstuffworks.com/medicine/tests-treatment/mental-illness-hallucinogens.htm

and here's an excellent (and humorous) podcast of the same (How Stuff Works) :

BTW I am in no way recommending or suggesting that anyone goes out and gets loaded on these drugs! But, who knows - in 5 or so years they could be the first line treatment for depression...

Pete
