Yes you should probably be off all SSRIs. Though I have heard of people feeling well on a low dose of SJW and an SSRI.
I'm not sure how much I realy like SJW yet. I can say that I quite 20 mg Prozac and replaced it with New Chapter's Serofin, and so far I'm doing o.k. I'm really not going to know if Serofin will be effective the way I need it to be until another 4 to 6 weeks from now.
I just keep reading about people's positive experiences with the few superior brands of SJW that are available now. Many of these people had been on an SSRI. Even if they had success with an SSRI, they experienced a few unwanted side effects, such as reduced libido. When they switched to SJW, they felt as much relief as they did on the SSRI without the sexual or other side effects. It appears that Perika is the brand of SJW that I'm seeing the most success with. I picked Serofin because I read that it may be more calming than Perika, similar to how Kira is calming.
While st. john's wort is not a new antidepressant, it may be a new one to many that have not tried it or considered trying it.
If the standard therapeutic dose of SJW is not effective enough, one can always double the standard dose. It would make sense that we may have to double the standard therapeutic dose of SJW to achieve effects closer to pharmaceutical/synthetic antidepressants.
