I am not a fan of Lamotrigine at all. Out of all the anticonvulsants/anti-epileptics/mood stabilizers, lamotrigine has the most potential to damage the brain. A friend recently pointed out that some of my current issues may be due to my past use of lamotrigine and it's potential to impair Long Term Potentiation. It is the one "mood stabilizer" that seems to be adversely affecting people's neurological function long after cessation from the drug-I've heard several reports of this happening with Lamotrigine, but not other mood stabilizers.
If you really need Lamotrigine and have exhausted all options, I do think the priority should be feeling better, so go ahead and take it.
