Did you have social phobia? That's an important question to ask first... and if you suffer from social phobi, I really think a Benzo meds like the Clonazepam will be a good choice to start, but they are sometimes addictive and stop working after months or years. That's seem to happen more often on peoples who have social phobia (addiction and not working benzo meds) since a lot ofpeoples with social phobia tend to have an addictive personnality and drink too much alcohol or take drugs to be able to talk with unknow peoples and being pro-social.For the other meds, I don't think social phobia can be treat with antidepressants meds. Some peoples will claim that the Nardil or the Parnate work very well for social phobia but that's not true for everyone, I had nightmare times on the Parnate and almost die from it because of hypertensive crisis that happen without food interraction. The Nardil was before the gold standard treatment for the social phobia but since they change it in 2003 and sales it to another cheap generic drug compagny, it's seem to not work like in the past, but you can start with the Nardil for sure, try it before the Parnate, it's safer than the Parnate...
Alcohol was a good pro-social drug for me in the past but tend to trigger panic attack also and increase the anxiety.
Stimulant meds are for me a very bad choice, try some of them, the Ritalin was not good for sure...
Coffee was a good pro-social drug for me and I used it for years before my actual PDoc ask me to stop drinking coffee... That's weird cause since I stop the coffee, my anxiety level is 1000 times worse!!! Too bad I hate the coffee now, the smeel and taste of it make me sick...
So in order who have the Clonazepam, the Nardil, the Parnate if the Nardil fail, alcohol, coffee... The Paxil can be a good choice, it's not really working for the social phobia but it's decreasing the anxiety so it can lower the social anxiety also...
I think social phobia is more a personnality problem, you have to learn how to introduce you to the other peoples and also how to socialise... That's a hard process trust me, i'm working on that since a while... Therapy is the best thing to treat social phobia I think...no meds will cure it for sure...
