Side effects and lack of dose equivalency were good reasons in my case. I just switched from Nardil to Parnate after finding Nardil rather nasty. I could not have coped with their combined side effects and Nardil withdrawal during an equivalent-dose switch. Worse, "equivalent" doses aren't at least for me. One Parnate tablet affects me about as much as 3 Nardil. If I had tried to go straight from 3 Nardil to 3 Parnate...forget it.

Interestingly, according to the antidepressant comparison chart at www.rxfiles.ca, no washout is needed when switching between TCA's.
