I don't think a little ephedra will hurt in the short run. I've actually read reports of it improving mood, so it may assist with more than just weight loss. Yes, you do need to air on the side of caution when taking Ephedra/Mu huang. In the past I would said the same thing you did. But, after doing some research, I found that Ma Huang can be very safe, helpful and effective for several ailments if used responsibly.
I agree that getting off all drugs that can cause weight gain and when feeling better, eating right and exercising properly should help with weight loss and will eventually improve mental health.
