In reply to Chlorpheniramine, as an A.D. anyone?, posted by former poster on July 21, 2010, at 23:00:29
I know that this has come up in the past so you might want to try searching the archives.
I take chlorpheniramine when I get a certain type of headache that I (paradoxically?) associate with serotonin excess. (They are induced by prozac, tryptophan, etc. Other antihistamines are less effective, as are OTC analgesics.) I've never noticed an AD effect, but only used it as needed so I wouldn't expect to notice much. I've thought about doing the experiment, but never tried it.
From the little research I did on it a while back, it seemed like a good AD candidate, especially since a possible side effect is reduced appetite (as I recall). I doubt it will ever get serious attention as a potential AD since it's generic.
